Weird New $250 Adidas Shoes Leave Shocked Shoppers Split: ‘You Need Therapy’

They’re straddling the line between trendy and weird.

Fashion-forward brand AVAVAV, in collaboration with sportswear giant Adidas, has embarked on an initiative following the release of its latest collection – featuring the athletic brand’s Superstar sneakers with a twist.

The $250 kicks, which debuted at Milan Fashion Week as part of AVAVAV’s 2025 collection, are adorned with detachable rubber toes — dubbed “Superfingers” — that mimic cold-weather barefoot shoes designed for running.

The ‘added extra’, according to Adidas, is a nod to AVAVAV’s ‘four-toed motif’, which can be seen in the brand’s logo and referenced on their gloves, hats and boots – similar to that of the Tabi shoes of Maison Margiela.

The strange fall has left fans divided. Some hailed the look as “dope”, while others slammed the brands on social media for the strange design, which they called “cursed”, “ugly” and alien-like.

“What’s wrong with doing regular st,” one disgruntled follower wrote under an Adidas Instagram post.

“If you call this fashion, you need therapy,” snarled another.

“Wow Adidas is bad now,” someone else commented. “I remember when you used to do nice things.”

But AVAVAV creative director Beate Karlsson called the collaboration a “longtime dream” of hers – even though she doesn’t take it too seriously.

“From the beginning of our partnership, I was encouraged to ‘make fun’ of Adidas,” she said via Hypebae.

“There’s a lot of irony in how seriously we take sports and fashion; Exploring that while keeping a serious attitude has been a lot of fun.”

Despite the controversy, the market seems to have spoken – some sizes have already sold out online.

AVAVAV is known for its experimental approach to street style, with past presentations leaning towards theatrics by encouraging the audience to throw trash at the models.

In recent years, models have deliberately fallen on the runway or sped off on the catwalk.
