Starbucks revealed the date it will hold Red Cup Day this year.
The 2024 edition of Red Cup Day will take place on Thursday at participating locations across the country, according to the coffee shop chain.
During the annual one-day event, Starbucks said it will hand out free red reusable cups “while supplies last” to customers who buy one of the chain’s holiday beverages.
The “limited edition” red cups will be 16 oz.
All sizes and temperatures of drinks from Starbuck’s newly launched holiday menu and fall menu can give customers a free red reusable cup on Thursday, and so can hot chocolate, the company said.
The latter of those two seasonal menus has been available since August. 22.
“The reusable red cup donation is available no matter how you order, whether you order in-store Starbucks, in the drive-thru, on the Starbucks app using the order-ahead-and-pay feature, or through Starbucks delivery (available through Uber Eats , Door Dash and GrubHub Apps),” Starbucks said.
The company on Tuesday introduced a feature that allows customers to order food and drinks for delivery from Door Dash within the Starbucks app.
Holiday beverage orders placed this way are also eligible for the Thursday giveaway.
Red Cup Day has helped drive traffic for Starbucks in the past.
Last year, Red Cup Day brought a 31.7% increase in Starbucks visits “compared to the daily average of the previous five weeks,” according to Placer.ai.
The analytics company also reported years like 2022 and 2021 saw higher jumps of 81% and 65% on Red Cup Day.
In late October, Starbucks said its global comparable sales for fiscal 2024 fell 2%.
The company, under the new leadership of CEO Brian Niccol, is making a series of changes that he said are aimed at “winning back customers and returning to growth.”
According to the company, there were about 40,200 Starbucks locations worldwide as of the end of September, including about 18,400 in North America.
